Today, May 23, 2013 is World Turtle Day. Show your love and appreciation for this amazing ocean animal today buy using reusable bags instead of single use plastic, take a trip to the beach and enjoy the sun and pick up any extra trash on the sand. These may seam like small actions but the more people who take care of our environment and protect the wildlife, the more natural beauty their will be for everyone to enjoy.

Underwater Portrait Shoot

Recently I did an underwater portrait session with Laura Goutcher and Karly Ewing. Both are student at Brooks Institute and will be graduating in April. They will use these fun underwater portraits at their grad ceremony as a self portraits while they walk across the stage. I’m was happy to photograph these lovely ladies.

Hiking in Topanga State Park

Yesterday afternoon I went hiking with a few friends in Topanga State Park. As the sun started to get lower in the sky, a cool breeze started blowing and the light took on a light golden touch. I took a few photos using my new Induro tripod. I also brought my little friend, Patches the Pirate along for the hike. He got to hike in style though, carried the whole way. Special Promotion for Underwater Portraits

I have a promotional package going on right now for underwater portraits. These can entail underwater baby portraits, families, engagements, friends, beauty/fashion, and conceptual, themed shots. Photo sessions can have two wardrobes, either swimwear or costumes/clothing. With each package you will get your images correctly sized for prints and the computer either on a disk or through dropbox. Sessions can range from 30 minutes to an hour of in-water shooting time. If you have your own pool, I can come to you or we can shoot at one of my pool locations. This is all for the promotional rate of $100. Recently, I have been going back though old folders of images to catch those ones that slip by when you’ve been on a big shooting trip. I found an images of a graceful sea turtle when I was on my documentary trip in Hawaii and some crazy looking frogs that are compiled into this gallery.

A nice afternoon at the Zoo

The weather has really started to change and the sun is setting earlier in the day. This was great for my visits to the zoo because it allowed me to get more golden hour light while shooting there. I took this opportunity to get some scenic beauty shots of the zoo late in the afternoon when there wasn’t too many people around.

Boo at the Zoo

For the weekend before Halloween, the Moorpark Zoo had a special two day event called Boo at the Zoo. Children and all zoo visitors could come dressed in costume to the zoo whre they could trick-or-treat for candy as they wall around, get their face painted, play games for prizes, get bake sale items and learn what kind of treats animals from the zoo would want to eat.

The zoo was packed. It was very fun to see so many happy children getting their faces painted and being brave enough to touch the cockroaches, which even I have not done yet.

Moorpark Zoo Adoption Program

On my second visit to the park I worked with one of the students who helps with the animal adoption program the Moorpark Training Zoo has. The Adopt-an Animalprogram allows people to donate the cost of food, housing and health care of an animal for one year. When an animal is adopted that person recieves:

An adoption certificate.
A fact sheet about your animal.
A color photograph of your animal
The privilege to visit your animal one Saturday or Sunday each month at the Teaching Zoo.

There is no need to worry if your favorite animal has already been adopted because there is no limit to how many people may adopt a single one.

I got to take some photos of animals that the zoo did not have an adoption photo for. This was fun because for the Squirrel Monkeys photos, I got to go inside the exhibit. As soon as I was inside one of the two Squirrel Monkeys jumped on top of my head. I just stood still and waited until he lept off as too make sure I did not hurt or scare him, even though it was very exciting.
